To commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day, ADOT proudly partnered with the charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) to support and amplify their powerful “Missed Birthdays” campaign, which highlights the pressing issue of youth suicide.
On the 9th and 10th of September, ADOT contributed to this crucial cause by donating media space on the Outernet’s VISTA screens, showcasing visuals tied to the “Missed Birthdays” installation. This installation, taking place simultaneously at Westfield White City, offered a poignant reminder of the 6,929 young lives tragically lost to suicide in the UK over the last decade. Each of these lives was represented by a single balloon, symbolizing a birthday that will never be celebrated—a heart-wrenching reminder of the void left behind.

The installation’s goal is to raise awareness and shine a light on the devastating reality of youth suicide, sparking much-needed conversations about mental health and prevention. CALM’s message is clear: we need to act now, before more young people are lost. Open, honest conversations could be the difference that helps a young person find hope and the strength to carry on.
In addition to the visual impact of the campaign, CALM is encouraging individuals, families, and communities to take proactive steps by downloading their CALM C.A.R.E. kit. This resource provides practical tools and guidance to help keep young people safe, whether you’re a parent, teacher, friend, or mentor. The kit empowers everyone to play a role in suicide prevention, offering advice on how to have meaningful conversations and identify signs of distress before it’s too late.
Let’s all take this opportunity to make a difference. Together, we can ensure that more young people live to see their next birthday. Find out more about the “Missed Birthdays” campaign and how you can support CALM’s lifesaving work by visiting their website and accessing their C.A.R.E. kit. Every conversation counts—let’s help more young people see a brighter tomorrow.
